Snakes & Ladders, alive and glowing
Snakes that breathe and strike, ladders that glow, and pieces that climb and tumble. Choose one of five boards from Easy to Expert and race to 100.
Snakes & Ladders rules
- Everyone starts before square 1. Roll the dice and move that many squares.
- Land at the bottom of a ladder and climb up. Land on a snake's head and slide down to its tail.
- A 6 rolls again. Three 6s in a row and your turn is lost.
- No captures: pieces can share a square.
- You need the exact number to reach 100. If the dice is too big, you wait and try again next turn.
Five boards, Easy to Expert
- Easy: long ladders, few snakes. A giant ladder from the first row to the top.
- Medium: a balanced board where snakes never cross.
- Twisty: crossing snakes for a busier board.
- Hard: few ladders, long snakes, including one from 99 back to square 1.
- Expert: the longest snakes. Reaching 100 is a real achievement.
Every board comes in Classic, Water and Forest, with the same rules everywhere.
Playing against the computer? When a snake is about to bite, you can watch a short ad for a Snake shield or a Lucky re-roll. It is always your choice.
Born in India as Moksha Patam
Snakes and Ladders began in India as Moksha Patam, also called Gyan Chaupar. Ladders stood for good deeds that lift you up and snakes for bad ones that pull you down, with the last square standing for moksha. The game travelled the world and became the race to 100 children everywhere know today.
