Play Ludo online, the masti way
Classic Indian Ludo with a twist: pick swimmers that glide through waterways or jungle animals with a special move on every six. Play against the computer or pass the phone to friends.
Ludo rules, the classic Indian way
- Each player has 4 pieces in a home yard (or 2 in a quick game). The goal is to bring all of them to the centre first.
- Roll a 6 to bring a piece out onto your start square. A 6 always gives you another roll.
- Three 6s in a row and the third one is not played: your turn passes.
- Land on an opponent's piece to capture it: it goes back to its yard and you roll again.
- Start squares and stars are safe. Nobody can be captured there.
- After a full lap, your piece turns into your own coloured lane. It needs the exact number to reach home, and reaching home gives another roll.
Three worlds to play in
Water. Red Koi, Green Turtle, Yellow Duck and Blue Frog swim along the waterways, and a 4 is a Super Swim. Lily pads are the safe squares.
Forest. Tiger, Elephant, Deer and Peacock walk the jungle trail. On a 6 the tiger pounces, the elephant stomps, the deer leaps and the peacock fans its feathers. A capture sends the other animal flying home, dizzy.
Classic. The bright board everyone grew up with.
Tips to win- Spread your pieces out early so one unlucky capture does not cost you everything.
- Park on safe squares when an opponent is right behind you.
- A piece within six squares behind an opponent is a threat. Move it first when you can capture.
From Pachisi to Ludo
Ludo grew out of Pachisi, the cross-and-circle race game that has been played in India for centuries. The same idea, racing your pieces home while knocking others back, travelled the world and became the Ludo families play today.
Ludo questions
What number do you need to start in Ludo?
A 6. A piece can leave its home yard only on a 6, and the 6 also gives you another roll.
What happens if you roll three 6s in a row?
The third 6 is not played and your turn passes to the next player.
Can a piece be captured on a safe square?
No. Start squares and star squares are safe: pieces of different colours can share them and nobody is sent home there.
Do you need an exact number to reach home?
Yes. A piece reaches the centre only with the exact number. If the dice is too big, that piece cannot move.
Can I play with friends?
Yes. Choose "With Friends" and pass the phone around, 2 to 4 players. Online play with friends is coming later.
Is it free, and does it use real money?
It is free and never uses real money: no deposits, no cash prizes, no betting.
